What do we believe?

“He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.” -Titus 1:9

What we believe

At our core, we hold to the historic Christian faith as revealed in the Bible and confessed by the global church through the centuries. We unite around the gospel of Jesus Christ and believe the following:

God

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—perfect in love, holiness, power, and glory.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, substitutionary death on the cross, victorious bodily resurrection, ascension to the Father, and future return in glory to reign as King.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus, gives new life, empowers believers for godly living, and equips the church with spiritual gifts for ministry. We believe the gifts of the Spirit continue today and are given for the building up of the church and mission of God.

Scripture

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired and authoritative Word, trustworthy in all it affirms, and the final authority for faith and life.

Humanity

We believe all people are created in God’s image yet separated from Him by sin. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Because of this unearned salvation, we practice good works in order to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did.

The Church

We believe the church is the body of Christ, called to love God, love one another, and make disciples of all nations. We believe God calls both women and men to serve in all areas of ministry, according to the gifts He has given.

The Future

We believe Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead, and to fully establish His kingdom. We look forward with hope to the new heavens and the new earth, where God will dwell with His people forever.

Do I have to believe every belief in order to attend The Way?

No, you do not have to believe in these things before gathering with us. Everyone is welcomed into our homes! These beliefs are important to articulate so that way there is no confusion about where we stand when it comes to what we believe. There are primary core doctrines (Ex: the deity of Christ; authority of scripture; saved by grace through faith) that we believe every Christian should accept. There are also secondary doctrines that separate many different Christian denominations (Ex: beliefs on second coming; heaven and hell; the work of the Holy Spirit; women in ministry). We believe that these secondary beliefs should not separate us. We can hold to various secondary beliefs and teachings and still come together under the finished work of Christ and receive communion together.
